Okay, so I don't do a whole lot of journals (or submissions in general for that matter). And this one's a matter of personal opinion on something I feel shouldn't even be up for debate.
WHAT THE FUCK IS UP WITH THIS TREND OF SEXUALIZING DEAD/DISMEMBERED WOMEN?!?!?!?
And it's not just the guro* (gore hentai). It's been in a bunch of the video games I've played recently, too. I finally got the chance to play a bunch of games that I've always heard so much hype over and I wanted to see what the big deal was. I just ended up getting disgusted instead.
The way the female victims in LA Noire are posed (even some of the comments made) for example. Then there's the seriously fucked up treatment of women in the Grand Theft Auto series as a whole. The Witcher, Red Dead Redemption, the list goes on and on. What the fuck people?
This whole glorifying and sexualizing death and violence shit is getting seriously out of hand and needs to be addressed. "It's just a cartoon/made-up/drawing" isn't even remotely close to sufficient justification. And ignoring this problem won't make it go away. This is the sort of shit that festers and gets incredibly worse when left alone. This is the sort of shit that really does lead to actual violence and crimes. Eventually the thrill of seeing it drawn/animated dulls out. Then, comes a rather crucial point; the person either realizes that they were getting off to it for the thrill of the taboo, or their fetish instigates (gets worse). Some will shift over to snuff films and live action (mostly staged) gore porn or snuff films. But there are those who will instigate to acting out their fantasies and the things they've scene. And regardless of whether or not the guro fetishist instigates or was just thrill seeking; the things they've seen have a profound affect on their relationships and treatment of women (seriously, how often are men the victims in guro).
*I've always been skeezed out by guro. How the fuck does one even get to that point? I graduated as a psychology major and I still have no clue. Fictional or not, the guro fetishists are still getting off on the idea of the violence/mutilation/murder/death of an individual (the victims by-and-large being women), so it still counts as being fucked up in the head.
